A Tradition Aloft:
Newport Aviation's Proud History
Newport Aviation's founder Heather Corson, is deeply rooted in family, passion, and community. Growing up in an aviation-oriented household, Heather was profoundly influenced by her father, Chris Drago, who had dedicated his life to aviation as an Air Force aircraft maintenance technician before owning and operating Chris Aircraft, an aircraft maintenance business. Her earliest memories are intertwined with adventures in the sky, as family vacations often meant soaring through clouds with her father at the controls of their own airplane.
Inspired by these cherished moments and her father's unwavering love for aviation, Heather followed in his footsteps, determined to share the magic and possibilities of flight with others. In 2003, she took a significant step, establishing Newport Aviation at the Col. Robert F. Wood Airpark in Middletown, Rhode Island. With a vision to create more than just a flight school, Heather aimed to foster a welcoming community that would ignite dreams and inspire lifelong careers.
Under Heather’s dedicated leadership, Newport Aviation quickly became renowned for its personalized training, strong emphasis on safety, and commitment to excellence. The school attracts students from various backgrounds—ranging from enthusiastic beginners to pilots pursuing advanced certifications. Heather's personalized approach ensures that each aspiring aviator feels valued and supported, echoing the close-knit sense of family she treasured growing up.
Heather’s commitment extends far beyond the cockpit. Actively involved with Junior Achievement of Rhode Island, she passionately volunteers her time to help inspire and educate young individuals about the potential that awaits them, both in aviation and beyond. Through mentorship and active engagement, Heather reinforces the importance of giving back to the community that has so richly shaped her own journey.
Today, Newport Aviation stands as a thriving testament to Heather Corson's dedication, passion, and devotion in honoring her fathers enduring legacy, offering students not just flight instruction, but a gateway to realizing their aspirations. With each flight, Heather continues to honor her family’s legacy, building a community united by the freedom and joy that can only be found in the skies.
